Endodontics

Root canal treatment

Endodontics, or root canal treatment, is required when the blood and nerve supply (pulp) of the tooth is infected through decay or injury and involves the removal of the infected pulp tissues from the tooth.

Once the infection has been removed, the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected with a special anti-bacterial solution. The canal is then, filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. Finally the tooth is restored by fitting either a permanent filling or a crown.

  • Prevents further infection

  • Removes severe pain caused by the infection

  • Removes the need to extract the infected tooth

  • Procedure is generally pain free and is completed at a single appointment
